NAKUL KHANNA
I'm a software engineer working at Bloomberg LP in London. Before that, I studied Computer Science at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.

WORK
I work in the Data Technologies department of Engineering at Bloomberg. We're in charge of the processes that onboard data into the company, especially where that data is obscure, difficult to parse or of unreliable quality.

That includes processes to locate the data online, automatically scrape it, extract tabular values from XML/JSON/PDFs, map these to our own data schemas, run automatic and manual validation and calculations and publish the data downstream. Lately it's also involved some work around the collection and aggregation of performance metrics.

Most recently I've been working on our Business Rules Engine, which allows users to write flexible validation rules in simplified Python, and stores provenance information for later analysis.

When I'm not doing work for my team, I also conduct graduate-level interviews, do campus recruitment (particularly back at Cambridge, for which I'm Bloomberg's recruitment captain), volunteer with schoolchildren and participate in the Toastmasters public speaking club.

ABOUT ME
I've long taken a keen interest in politics - more about that here.

I'm a big fan of science fiction and fantasy literature, and the odd film/television adaptation that doesn't completely butcher its source material. Many years after I last read it I'd still say my favourite novel is Hyperion by Dan Simmons. I write a few short stories of my own, and would love to get around to a novel some day.

I've been interested in gaming since almost before I could walk; these days I play on my PS4 and the gaming PC that I built at 16. I like to rank things, so I maintain a list of my top 50 games of all time.

I recently earned my Level 2 in Wine.

When I do go outside, I like a good game of tennis on a sunny and warm day, or squash on a less sunny and warm day. I enjoy long walks, and can tolerate the occasional run.

On occasion, I write some Google reviews of the restaurants where I've eaten.

I also have a Medium blog where I write about whatever comes to mind.
